ARTIST’S NOTES: “In this work, inner turmoil clashes with external silence, which is interpreted as a closed-off attitude. For me, the eyes are a highly significant means of communication, and in this piece, the choice to depict them as closed serves to reinforce the intention to not communicate. This piece, in addition to fitting into the overarching theme of “Chaos Creates, Silence Reveals,” also harkens back to “Can you look into my eyes?” where the desire to communicate inner distress was evident, and the eyes were the vehicle for the message. This time, however, despite the intensity of the inner chaos that would require shouting, it is forcibly concealed. The message, therefore, is a reflection on how sometimes the absence of communication can instead hide a more intricate form of indirect communication.”
